S31500 Duplex Stainless Steel
Introduction & Properties
Duplex stainless steel S31500 is developed with the addition of amount of
0.05% ~ 0.10% nitrogen, which can lead to form special resistance to chloride stress corrosion.It has the same pitting resistance as that of S31603. S31500 has good strength and toughness,and it has better resistance to stress corrosion than that of 304 or 316. However, in heating or welding sensitization at high-temperature, once the single-phase ferrite appears, S31500 continues to show sensitivity to intergranular corrosion.

Forging process of S31500
Preheat / ℃ initial forging temperature / ℃ final forging temperature / ℃ Cooling
800 1100 ~ 1150 ≥ 950 air-cooled
Heat treatment of S31500
Solution treatment temperature is 920 ~ 1150 ℃, cooled rapidly, the hardness ≤ 290HBW.
Application
S31500 steel is used for products under chloride environment, typically applications are shown as below:
• oil refining, fertilizer
• paper, petroleum, chemical
• industrial heat exchangers, condensers, etc,.
