Introduction & Properties
Duplex stainless steel 255/S32550 was developed in the 20th century on the basis of alloy255. 255/S32550 steel has good mechanical properties and resistance to localized corrosion, and its wear resistance is better than that of austenitic ones, which is the ideal material for products under seawater. In the chloride environment, pitting resistance of 255/S32550 is superior to that of S31500, which is the ideal material for products under marine environment. And 255 also performs well in sulfuric, phosphoric, nitric and shows excellent resistance to organic acids such as acetic and reformic acid.

Forging process of 255/S32550
Preheat / ℃ initial forging temperature / ℃ final forging temperature / ℃ cooling
800 1100 ~ 1150 ≥ 930 air-cooled
Heat treatment of 255/S32550
Solution temperature is 950 ~ 1120 ℃, water, hardness ≤ 290HBW; aging temperature is 500 ~ 510 ℃.
Weldability of 255/S32550
welding technology of 255/S32550 duplex stainless steel is similar to that of austenitic stainless steel, and no heat treatment after welding.
Application
255/S32550 is widely used, and typical applications are shown as below:
• ship propellers, shafts, seals
• submarines, chemical, petrochemical, natural gas, pulp, paper industry
