UNS 32304Introduction
The structure of duplex stainless steel 2304 (UNS S32304) is a balance of ferritic and
austenitic, which is to feature high strength and toughness, resistance to stress corrosion cracking, low thermal expansion, high thermal conductivity and easy fabrication. And because it has almost no molybdenum in it, the 2304 (UNS S32304) is an economical alternative to 316 insome applications.
Properties
2304 (UNS S32304) is of good general corrosion resistance — approximately the same as 316 in most environments. It also has good resistance to localized corrosion including intergranular, pitting and crevice corrosion. It has similar resistance to sea water as grade 316. 2304(S32304) is also resistant to chloride stress corrosion cracking (SCC) at temperatures of up to over 100°C, but it is not designed for applications which expose it to temperatures over 570 F for long period. However,2304 will often perform well in environments which cause premature failure of austenitic grades.

C ≤ 0.030 Si ≤ 1.0, Mn ≤ 2.5 S ≤ 0.030, P ≤ 0.040,
Cr: 21.5 - 24.5 Ni: 3.0 - 5.5 Mo: 0.05 - 0.6 N: 0.05 - 0.20 Cu：0.05 - 0.6
Application
One of the advantages of 2304 (UNS S32304) is that it is an economical alternative to 316 in
some applications.And 2304 is not generally suitable for use at
temperatures above 300°C as it suffers from precipitation of brittle micro-constituents, nor below -50°C because of its ductile-to-brittletransition.

• chemical processing, transport and storage.
• oil and gas exploration and processing equipment.
• marine and other high chloride environments.
• pulp & paper digesters, liquor tanks and paper machines.
