Introduction & Properties
XM-21 (UNS S30452) is a kind of austenitic chrome-nickel steel that is developed by adding nitrogen and niobium on the basis of the 304/S30400. And the Nb can improve inter granular corrosion resistance while N can significantly increase the strength of stee and reduce the thickness and weight of of the material.

Forging process of XM-21/S30452
Preheat / ℃ initial forging temperature / ℃ final forging temperature / ℃ Cooling
815 1150 ~ 1160 ≥ 930 air-cooled
Preliminary heat treatment of XM-21/S30452
Annealing on elimination of processing stress 300 ~ 350 ℃, heat 1 ~ 2h, air cooling; Annealing on eliminating hardening stress 750 ~ 850 ℃, heat 1 ~ 3h, fast-cooling.
Stabilization of solution of XM-21/S30452
Solution heat treatment: heating temperature 1010 ~ 1150 ℃, rapid cooling, the hardness ≤ 250HBW;
Stabilization treatment: heating temperature 850 ~ 900 ℃, heat 2h, air cooling.
Application
XM-21 (UNS S30452) can be used on the equipment and structures with the requirements of high strength and resistance to intergranular corrosion.
