316 (UNS S31600)
316 Austenitic Stainless Steel
UNS S31600
Introduction
316 (UNS S31600) is an austenitic stainless steel with the amount of
around 2.5% molybdenum. This substance increases general corrosion resistance and improves resistance to pitting from chloride ion solutions, as well as provides increased strength at elevated temperatures.316L is similar in composition and strength to 304L stainless steel with the amount of 2.0% Molybdenum. 316/316L is non-magnetic in the annealed condition but may become slightly magnetic as a result of welding.
Properties
The addition of molybdenum provides improved resistance of 316 (UNS S31600) to pitting and crevice corrosion in environments containing chlorides and other halides.316/316L has good resistance to sea water, reducing acids and solution of bromides and iodies.
