254 SMO
254 SMO Austenitic stainless steel
Characteristics of 254 SMO:
254 SMO is a kind of austenitic stainless steel with high molybdenum content. The combination of nickel and copper provides 254 SMO good resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion, especially in the environments where contain halide ions such as chloride, bromide and fluoride solutions. Moreover, it has been regarded as a cost effective substitute for high nickel and titanium alloys in some cases. 254 SMO is typically characterized by excellent ductility and impact strength at both ambient and sub-zero temperatures as well as low magnetic permeability.Chemical composition of 254 SMO (%):

Weldability of 254 SMO:
254 SMO has very good weldability. As we all know, welding without filler material will cause poor strength properties. So we recommend the filler metals should include AWS A5.14 ERNiCrMo-3 and alloy 625 and electrodes should comply with AWS A5.11 ENiCrMo-12.Annealing of 254 SMO:
The annealing temperature is 2100~2200℉ (1149~1204℃), followed by water quenching.Applications of 254 SMO:
The applications of 254 SMO are very wide. It can be used in many fields, such as chemical process industry, marine industry and shipbuilding, oil and gas industry, pulp and paper industry, power industry and desalination plant and so on. Specifically, it can be used in petroleum production, saltwater handling, food processing and chemical processing equipment, pulp mill bleach system, etc.For further information on selection, application, heat treatment and inventory, please contact us kindly.
