Heat treatment of Heat Resistant Stainless Steel
As a process of heat resistant stainless steel producing, heat treatment can be a complex part that should be payed attention to. To start the process, all the steel billet which are needed should be heated to a specified temperature. Keep this for a certain time then cool the steel in the cooling method that chosen aforehand, using the selected cooling rate to get the needed microstructure and properties. The operation process is called heat treatment. Heat treatment includes two parts, heating and insulation, and cooling composition. Annealing, normalizing, quenching and tempering, solution and aging treatment and cold treatment are the main types of heat treatment of Heat Resistant Stainless Steel. Through the proper heat treatment process, we can get a full potential of the material.
Ferrite steel can't be strengthened by the heat treatment, instead, by rapid cooling to avoid 475 ℃ brittleness after annealing treatment at a temperature around 750 ~ 950 ℃.
Austenitic steel according to the production features can be divided into deformation processing materials and casting material. Deformation processing materials are used in solid solution treatment or stabilizing or precipitation hardening (solid solution treatment and aging) state. Annealing is for stable organization and eliminate cold work hardening and welding stress. Casting material is generally used in casting state or solid solution state use, also in precipitation hardening conditions.
There are two main purpose of the solution treatment, one is to make all kinds of steel and carbide solid economic in weeks solution, obtaining the solid solution strengthening, the second is to get the suitable grain size.
The purpose of aging is to make the supersaturated solid solution precipitation of dispersion strengthening phase to achieve the effect of dispersion strengthened.
